Michael Westen played by Jeffrey Donovan is a burned spy who is forced to work in Miami while figuring out who burned him. He had a relationship with Fiona Glenanne, but proved to be afraid of commitment. Above all else, he fears his neurotic mother who is entirely focused on Michael. He keeps up a good, friendly relationship with Sam Axe.
As Season 1 closed Michael discovered who burned him, but before he could get any information out of him as to why, he was taken out by a sniper. All he could tell Michael was that somebody has “Big Plans for him”. He spends his days helping people in the Miami area and reluctantly working for Carla and her organization.

Fiona Glenanne played by Gabrielle Anwar is a former Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) Operative and Michael’s ex-girlfriend. Although, in the past, Sam double-crossed her, she has apparently let go and is willing to work with him.
Michael claims that Fiona is the closest he’s ever gotten to a real relationship, but Michael was never able to commit. The relationship between them continues to be pseudo-romantic, with moments of deeper emotion occasionally perforating the usual sarcasm and jocular manner in which they converse. Fiona keeps in touch with Michael’s mother, whom Michael does not get along with, often using it as leverage to get what she wants from Michael.

Sam Axe played by Bruce Campbell is a former spy and Navy Seal, he is Michael’s best friend and normally helps him out with his jobs.
During Season 1 Sam was an FBI informant, feeding the FBI false infomation about Michael and his day to day life, however in Season 2 he no longer does this allowing him to assist Michael more in his work.
His character provides much needed comic relief to the show.
